Since 1983, the Friends of Mahwah Library, Inc. have supported the Library through advocacy, fundraising, and community engagement.

About Us
The Friends are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit membership organization dedicated to supporting the activities and mission of the Mahwah Public Library.
We Support the Library!
What We Do
The Friends raise funds to support services and programs outside the scope of the library's annual operating budget. Most importantly of all, Friends members are advocates of the library who know the importance of the role of the library in their community.
Advocacy
Friends advocate for the Library and raise awareness of Library issues among Mahwah residents. In 2019, the Friends were instrumental in helping pass a referendum increasing the Library's appropriation to 3/8 mill.
Fundraising
Friends raise funds through membership dues, fundraising, and sale of snacks in the Library. These funds go to supporting the core mission of the Library, including advocating for library issues, adding to its collections, and bolstering programs to residents.
Special Projects
Friends augment basic Library services with special items and materials not included in the regular budget. In 2023, Friends secured a Starbucks Neighborhood Grant to purchase the Library's first 3D printer and supplies.
Volunteering
Friends volunteer behind the scenes, helping the Library staff focus on exceptional customer service. In 2024, volunteers sorted through discarded books and funneled thousands of saleable items to Thrift Books where they generated a profit, and saved tones of waste.
